Autism Consortium: Raising A Child with an ASD

Financial Aid for Disabled Students
A listing of numerous scholarship options for students with disabilities that range from national financial aid opportunities to local opportunities within the United States and Canada. Each scholarship profile indicates whether online programs at accredited colleges or universities are eligible for the award.
Schwallie Family Scholarship Program:
Accepts applications from persons with an autism diagnosis (DSM-IV or later criteria) pursuing full-time, post-secondary, undergraduate education or vocational-technical training. There are 2 options: Schwallie Family Scholarship for students needing fewer supports and the Lisa Higgins Hussman Scholarship for students needing more supports.

Edwin Phillips Foundation
Edwin Phillips Foundation Provides grants directly to families who have children with disabilities, including physical and cognitive challenges. Funds can be used for more expensive projects or services such as assistive technology or home modifications. Some of the eligibility requirements include: Children up to and including 21 years of age who live in Marshfield, Massachusetts or Plymouth County, Massachusetts.

iPad Funding:
In obtaining an iPad, please keep in mind that in addition to the device, most families will need to purchase a communication app (ranges from $50-$300), a protective case (about $50) and be trained on the app.
Adler’s Voice:
Adler’s Voice provides augmentive and alternative communication (AAC) devices to children with significant communication difficulties throughout Oregon. Referral Form & Release and Application Form.
Developmental Disability Services:
Located in each county offers iPds for use as an AAC (alternative, augmentative communication device) and/or executive function support. Please check with your service coordinator (ie, case worker) for details and requirements.
Zetosch Fund
Provides funds for equipment to help children with special needs succeed in school, including iPads. Requirements are that children must be under age 21 with a diagnosed disability or special health care need (must be a medical diagnosis), the family has finanical need and and the equipment requested addresses an educational need. Applications must be submitted by educational providers, health care providers or county disability services only. NO DIRECT APPLICATIONS from families. Applications will be taken until funds run out each year. Applications will being taken from November 1 – 30, 2023.

Modest Needs
Modest Needs is a national nonprofit empowering members of the general public to make small, emergency grants to low-income workers who are at risk of slipping into poverty. Self-Sufficiency Grants assist individuals and families who are working and live just above the poverty level, but are ineligible for most types of conventional social assistance and who are living one or two lost paychecks away financial catastrophe that can lead to homelessness. They fund unexpected or emergency expenses or monthly bills that can’t be paid due to a “documentable extenuating circumstance” that occurred within the past year.

TRICARE: Enhanced Access to Autism Services Demonstration
Under the Enhanced Access to Autism Services Demonstration, TRICARE covers Educational Interventions for Autism Spectrum Disorders for qualifying military families. The demonstration is available in the 50 states and DC to beneficiaries who are 18 months or older, registered or in the process of registering in ECHO, and diagnosed with either Autistic Disorder (AD), Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS), Asperger’s Disorder (AS) or Childhood Disintegrative Disorder (CDD).
United Health Care Children’s Foundation:
Dedicated to facilitating access to medical-related services that have the potential to significantly enhance either the clinical condition or the quality of life of the child and that are not fully covered by the available commercial health benefit plan. Support is in the form of a medical grant to be used for medical services not covered or not completely covered by commercial health benefit plans. ISAAC Foundation
A non-profit organization that offers free weighted blankets and lap pads to individuals in need, including adults. Individual does NOT need to have an autism diagnosis. Based in Spokane, WA
Autism Society of Oregon:
ASO accepts requests for donations and support from 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations serving the autism or autistic community. We are sorry, but we cannot process requests on behalf of an individual. ASO tries to accommodate as many requests as time and resources allow.
