DESCRIPTION:Immigrant Youth and Mental Health\nPromoting Healing after Trauma\n  \nDaytime Session\nMonday\, October 15\, 2018\n9:00am – 3:00pm\nJC Health and Human Services\n140 S Holly St\nMedford OR 97501 \nEvening session\nMonday\, October 15\, 2018\n6-8:00pm\nProvidence Medford Medical Center\nMary Norbert Hall\n1111 Crater Lake Ave\nMedford OR  97504 \nPREREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED!! \nThe daytime session is intended for educators\,  care providers\, therapists\, and agency staff.    \nThere will be an evening session which is intended for parents and families with interpretation\,  however everyone is welcome to attend.         \nImmigrant youth are considered to be at high risk for mental health concerns with the lingering uncertainty that exists about their future and that of their immediate family. \nThis full day conference will address: \n\nHow trauma impacts refugee and immigrant children\nHow to best support immigrant and refugee youth and families in school and in the community\nSuccessful community and school interventions\nHow to promote healing.\n\nPlease join Swindells as we welcome these dynamic experts in their fields as they share their personal experience in promoting healing and understanding for immigrant youth. \nDr. Omar Reda\, board-certified psychiatrist\, is a graduate of the Benghazi Medical School and has a Masters certificate in Global Mental Health from Harvard.  He authored “Untangled”\, a program which utilizes family bonding and psychosocial healing practices to empower trauma survivors\, their caregivers and loved ones. \nNura Elmagbari MS is the founder of Daughters of Eve\, providing empowerment opportunities for Muslim girls and president of the Portland Refugee Support Group who assists refugees acclimate to life here through education\, skills training and psycho-social support. \nBernal Cruz\, MSW is a child welfare expert serving migrant youth and unaccompanied children. He has nearly 20 years of experience providing complex mental health services to children and families in schools\, hospitals\, foster care settings\, refugee and residential facilities for diverse populations. \nYOU MUST PREREGISTER TO ATTEND \nTo register please contact Kathy at Katherine.Keesee@Providence.org  or at 541-732-5958.    Space is limited so please register early. \nLunch will be provided so please indicate any dietary restriction at registration… ie.  vegan\, vegetarian\, gluten free\, etc. \nNo child care will be provided. \nIf you need any special accommodations\, please let me know asap. \nThanks to the support of the Oregon Department of Education\, there will be 5 hours of PDUs available for free.  Inquire at registration \nThis event is a collaborative effort between Swindells Resource Center\,  Jackson County Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education\, Jackson County Developmental Disabilities Services\, Jackson County Mental Health Services\,  Unete\, Center for Farm Worker Advocacy\, and our event sponsors Jackson Care Connect\, AllCare Health and the Oregon Department of  Education.
