DESCRIPTION:Wednesday March 28\, 2018 \n10:30 AM-12:00 PM ; OHS 8B60 Auditorium \nThe important role of motor skill development and physical activity behavior for individuals with developmental disabilities\nPresenter\nDr. Megan MacDonald\, Ph.D.\nOregon State University \nDr. Megan MacDonald is an associate professor of kinesiology in the College of Public Health & Human Sciences at Oregon State University.  She received her PhD in 2011 from the School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan.  Dr. MacDonald’s work broadly focuses on the critical role of motor skill development and physical activity behavior in children with and without disabilities and how these behaviors relate to and impact other aspects of child development.  Dr. MacDonald is a current PI on a funded study from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health & Human Development\, focused on improving the physical activity behavior of adolescents with developmental disabilities.

Dora Raymaker\, Ph.D.\, Portland State University \nDora Raymaker\, PhD is an Assistant Research Professor at the Portland State University’s Regional Research Institute\, and co-directs the Academic Autism Spectrum Partnership in Research and Education (AASPIRE\, http://aaspire.org). She is an intervention researcher with particular interest in community-engaged practices\, accessible technology\, measurement adaptation and knowledge translation\, and dynamics at the intersection of science\, society\, and public policy. Dr. Raymaker primarily conducts research in collaboration with disability communities. \nDr. Raymaker will present a two-year study that uses a community based participatory research approach to understand the mechanisms of successful employment for employees on the autism spectrum in skilled or professional fields\, and to construct a model and intervention plan to improve employment outcomes. This seminar focuses on the year one findings from our qualitative interviews with autistic employees and job-seekers\, supervisors and supporters of autistic employees\, and a small number of key stakeholders within broader employment systems.

Joel Arick\, Ph.D.\, Portland State University \nDr. Arick has experience working as an educator\, researcher and trainer in the field of autism for over 30 years. He is the Project Director of the Oregon Program Autism Training Sites and Support Project and an autism consultant for STAR Autism Support. He is the lead author of the nationally used STAR (Strategies for Teaching based-on Autism Research) Program and Links Curriculum. He is also a co-author of several other published programs in the area of autism. These programs include the ASIEP-3 (Autism Screening Instrument for EducationalPlanning-3\, 2004)\, the KADI (Krug Asperger Disorder Index\,2003)\, and the FACTER Program (Functional Assessment and Curriculum for Teaching Everyday Routines\, 2004). \nDr. Arick\, with colleagues\, has been measuring the progress of children educated using the STAR Autism Program\, over the past fifteen years. He is also an author of a chapter entitled “School-based Programs for Children with Autism” in the Handbook on Autism (2005). Dr Arick is Professor Emeritus at Portland State University.
