DESCRIPTION:Immigrant Youth and Mental Health\nPromoting Healing after Trauma\n  \nDaytime Session\nMonday\, October 15\, 2018\n9:00am – 3:00pm\nJC Health and Human Services\n140 S Holly St\nMedford OR 97501 \nEvening session\nMonday\, October 15\, 2018\n6-8:00pm\nProvidence Medford Medical Center\nMary Norbert Hall\n1111 Crater Lake Ave\nMedford OR  97504 \nPREREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED!! \nThe daytime session is intended for educators\,  care providers\, therapists\, and agency staff.    \nThere will be an evening session which is intended for parents and families with interpretation\,  however everyone is welcome to attend.         \nImmigrant youth are considered to be at high risk for mental health concerns with the lingering uncertainty that exists about their future and that of their immediate family. \nThis full day conference will address: \n\nHow trauma impacts refugee and immigrant children\nHow to best support immigrant and refugee youth and families in school and in the community\nSuccessful community and school interventions\nHow to promote healing.\n\nPlease join Swindells as we welcome these dynamic experts in their fields as they share their personal experience in promoting healing and understanding for immigrant youth. \nDr. Omar Reda\, board-certified psychiatrist\, is a graduate of the Benghazi Medical School and has a Masters certificate in Global Mental Health from Harvard.  He authored “Untangled”\, a program which utilizes family bonding and psychosocial healing practices to empower trauma survivors\, their caregivers and loved ones. \nNura Elmagbari MS is the founder of Daughters of Eve\, providing empowerment opportunities for Muslim girls and president of the Portland Refugee Support Group who assists refugees acclimate to life here through education\, skills training and psycho-social support. \nBernal Cruz\, MSW is a child welfare expert serving migrant youth and unaccompanied children.
