SUMMARY:Suicide Prevention Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Developing Successful and Positive Suicide Prevention Messaging:\nPlanning Ahead for Suicide Prevention Month\n\nThursday\, July 13\, 2017 10:00:00 AM PDT – 11:30:00 AM PDT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nResearch shows that certain types of messaging about suicide deaths can increase risk among vulnerable individuals. Conversely\, positive and safe messages have the potential to help individuals in crisis find the help they need\, and educate the public about how they can be involved in preventing suicide. Recognizing this potential\, the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention (Action Alliance) and its partners are leading efforts designed to “change the public conversation about suicide and suicide prevention.”\n\nWhile resources already existed to help journalists cover suicide in news reports\, little guidance was available to guide other suicide prevention messengers. The Action Alliance's Framework for Successful Messaging fills that gap. Drawing from research on effective communications and suicide prevention\, the Framework is a resource to help those communicating to the public about suicide to create messages that are strategic\, safe\, positive\, and make use of relevant guidelines and best practices.\n\nAs you begin planning ahead for Suicide Prevention Month in September\, the Action Alliance invites you to a webinar: Developing Successful and Positive Suicide Prevention Messaging – Planning Ahead for Suicide Prevention Month.\n\nThe webinar is designed to provide:\n\n1)	An overview of the four elements of the Framework for Successful Messaging and how this resource helps to change the public conversation about suicide.\n2)	Tips and guidance for using the Framework to message to create messages that are strategic\, safe\, and aligned with prevention goals.\n3)	The importance of well-designed messaging during Suicide Prevention Month – and throughout the year.\n\nWebinar Presenters\n\nMark Weber\nDeputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs/Human Services\nU.S. Department of Health and Human Services;\nExecutive Committee Member and Changing the Conversation Priority Initiative Co-Lead\, National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention\n\nDr. April Foreman\nSuicide Prevention Coordinator\nSoutheast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System\nDepartment of Veterans Affairs;\nChanging the Conversation Priority Initiative Member\,\nNational Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention\n\nLinda Langford\, Sc.D.\nEvaluation and Communication Scientist\,\nSuicide Prevention Resource Center\n\nThe upcoming webinar is an opportunity to ask questions about messaging\, obtain answers around messaging challenges\, and share with others your messaging plans for suicide prevention month. Please join us for our messaging discussion on July 13th from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. ET!\n\nClick here to register:\n\nhttps://events-na1.adobeconnect.com/content/connect/c1/1002235226/en/events/event/private/2258170326/2266703342/event_registration.html?sco-id=2317223841
