Oregon Intervention System Training (OIS)

(“P” is for “Parent!”) is a two-session class for parents and other adult family members of children who experience
a developmental disability and/or mental health diagnosis and engage in challenging or even dangerous behaviors.
The goal is to help participants gain a basic understanding of behavior as well as some tools for preventing and
responding to difficult behaviors.


  • Day 1: Wednesday, January 15, 2014
  • Day 2: Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Time: 9:00-2:00pm each day *Participants must attend both days in order to receive a record of completion.
Location: Salem, OR
Max # of Participants: 12
Target Audience: Parents and primary care providers in the family home **
Cost: $65.00 per person *County services may help some families with the attendance fee, for more information please contact your county case manager.

OIS-P includes:

  •  An introduction to Positive Behavior Support (PBS)
  •  Information about how behavior affects us all, and all of the things that affect behavior
  •  Assessing the messages behind challenging behaviors
  •  Ways to work through power struggles, conflict, and stress
  •  Developing your own personalized stress-management plan
  •  Reasonable responses to challenging behavior, including specific physical intervention and escape techniques
  • *The class includes time for discussion as well as some exercises.

 Full payment must be received by OTAC no later than Friday, January 10, 2014. Any cancellations made
after this date will not be refunded- no exceptions.
 Lunch: 30 minutes (on your own)
 Dress: Wear comfortable clothing that you are easily able to move around in!
