This FREE workshop is designed to acquaint first responders with the common characteristics and behaviors of an individual with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and strategies for addressing crisis situations in a manner that prevents further escalation or negative outcomes.

Topics include:

The basic characteristics and common behaviors of autism spectrum disorders, Identifying an unknown individual as possibly being on the spectrum, Strategies for engagement and intervention,Techniques for handling aggression without unnecessary force, Effective response to elopement-children and adults, Tracking systems and databases (Take Me Home Database)

Presenters are Sgt. Jimmy Donohoe from the Pensicola Police Department and Bill Cannata from the Autism and Law Enforcement Education Coalition (ALEC).  This a free training to all first responders within Washington State provided by the Autism Society of Washington.
